Biography

John McDonnell has embarked on a consulting practice focused on custom database development and analytics  after a successful career in General Management and Human Resources.

After receiving a Bachelors degree from California State University, Northridge, John spent four years serving as an Officer in the US Navy.  Returning to civilian life, John joined McMaster-Carr Supply Company’s well-regarded Management Development Program and was eventually promoted to a West Coast Distribution Center Leadership Team position (Human Resources). While with McMaster-Carr Supply Company, John attended the Peter Drucker Center at Claremont Graduate University, receiving an MBA.

After leaving McMaster-Carr and relocating to the Midwest, JoVersion 3hn began a 10-year stint with the world-class Cleveland Clinic.   Initially hired to manage the Human Resources function for the 2,500-employee Marymount Hospital – John eventually attained the title of Vice President and provided HR Management support for three Cleveland Clinic businesses. John eventually was reassigned a corporate role – directing all Cleveland Clinic Regional Hospital non-physician recruiting activities and subsequently, John was assigned to the HRIS & Workforce Planning team where he was a key contributor in the RFP development and vendor selection process for a multi-million dollar Human Capital Management / Payroll (ERP) project. John also led the workforce analytics team and was the project manager for implementation of a self -service Knowledge Base and Employee Portal.

John’s consulting work has focused on development of custom business applications for organizations using the Filemaker Platform. In addition, John has consulted on hourly recruiting practices, deployment of improved job descriptions and implementation of hourly employee performance management structures. An excellent trainer, John has had great success in modernizing HR processes and ensuring that HR practitioners who remain – post-engagement – have the skills needed to continue to drive improvement initiatives.   In addition to custom database development and dashboard interactive dashboard design, John is a student of productivity processes and an evangelist for mobile technology – especially the iPad.
